Gaming can be healthy???

I have always thought that video games were a waste of time, yet I read an article today on WebMd about how stragedy games help improve the brains memory and cognitive skills. Games such as The Beatles Rock Band (which is appealing to the baby boomers generation) or Wii games, both require physical activity.

In the article Ezriel Kornel, MD said, "Playing certain video games can help improve split-second decision making, hand-eye coordination, and, in some cases, auditory perception."

Here's the trick..."It’s not enough, though, to just pick up a game and play it for a few minutes, Kornel tells WebMD. You have to actually improve at it -- and to improve you have to be learning."
“Anytime the brain is in learning mode,” Kornel says, “there are new synapses forming between the neurons. So you’re creating thousands of connections that can then be applied to other tasks as well.”

So maybe video games aren't so bad after all...if we use them in moderation that is.
